“The papyrus is drying out,” Hilary says, motoring us gently to the edges of the lake. The papyrus looks sad, rising out of the dark lake alongside slender grasses. Sure enough, they’re turning brown. “I don’t know what’s happening but around the whole lake, the papyrus is dying. Maybe there is a disease spreading.”
